Pittsfield 8th Graders embark on Cooler Communities

We are thrilled that the Cooler Communities Challenge is now embedded across civics, art and science classes in all Pittsfield 8th grade classrooms. We look forward to working with school leadership, teachers and students on a “better than ever” 2022 Berkshire Earth Expo and Cooler Communities Challenge! Of course, teachers and students from other districts are still invited to participate!                                                                                 Please contact uli@livingthechangeberkshires.com to learn more!

Cooler Communities spreading across Western Massachusetts

Even though this spring’s events had to be postponed due to COVID 19, schools in Northampton, Hadley, West-Springfield and Springfield, along with the Berkshires, are ready to host their own Cooler Communities event in the fall or next spring. We are very excited that with the help of the Harold Grinspoon Charitable Foundation, Cooler Communities are springing up all over Western Massachusetts!

Make your own storm windows!

At the December Green Drinks hosted by the Berkshire Environmental Action Team (BEAT) in Pittsfield, Mass, Jane and Bruce Winn from BEAT demonstrated how to make your own storm window inserts easily and affordably. You would be amazed at how much money and heat is leaking out of our old, single-pane windows every winter!

Although we don’t have a video of Jane and Bruce’s demo, you can check out this video from the Island Institute in Maine to learn more!
